New and exciting stuff!

As I write this, I am prepping myself for Nursing school. Yes! I'm going back to school! I'll be getting a certification as a CNA to get me started at working in my new career, and then will take an online course to become an LPN.

How in the world did I land here? Well...a couple of months ago I got a call from a friend at church who needed someone to stay with their mom during the daytime, as she recovered from hip surgery. She had fallen and broken her hip and pelvic bone, and part of her recovery required that someone be with her 24/7 for about 6 weeks. Her kids had originally hired a nurse to do the daytime shift but found out after a few days that I was looking for work. They decided they would rather have someone they know stay with their mom, and asked me if I was interested. Hmmm...me interested in spending my days with an elderly lady? Of course!!! I have ALWAYS loved being with and helping elderly people. I chalk that one up to my wonderful relationship with all my grandparents and the impact they all have made in my life. The rest of it is my giftedness with compassion, love and patience. Those are gifts that the Lord had planted in me. So, here was an opportunity for me to work using all my gifts!

Anyhoo...I absolutely fell in love with the dear lady I was staying with. I loved helping her with her physical therapy, treating her to manicures, doing her hair and helping her around the house. Then I got to meet her nurse and her physical therapist, both of which came to see her a couple of times a week. I was fascinated with what they did and how they helped her medically. I knew in my heart that I could be a nurse and help elderly people for the rest of my life. So, in my heart I have nicknamed my sweet elderly lady "My Spark", because she is the person who sparked all this for me. Well, I know it was actually God, but I don't want to call him Sparky. LOL!

Anyway, I start school on 9/8/09 and am trying to learn a few things before it starts. I still have to get my background check done but other than that...I'm ready to go!!!

I'll keep ya posted as time goes on! Toodles!!!
